This two-story private residence is on a 588-square-meter plot in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The owners, a couple with one child, desired a new home featuring a simple layout that balances openness and privacy. Meanwhile, the house can serve their family activities. The wife's preference for modern mid-century architecture inspired the design, incorporating elements from that era. The designer emphasized the harmony of interior space, ensuring elements appear seamlessly connected. Open-plan layouts, curve lines, and white micro cement floor finishing enhance the flow between different spaces. The house was designed in an L-shaped form, providing an enclosed private garden that users can access easily. Meanwhile, the design aimed to apply a passive-design approach, bringing natural elements into the house, such as sunlight and ventilation, to create a livable space. The first floor is a common area with a sloped double-volume ceiling height. It includes a living area, dining area, pantry, and Thai kitchen, which function as the family's gathering space. The stepped floor defines the space without the wall. Further inside, a toilet, guest bedroom, and multipurpose room are placed for more privacy. A semi-outdoor space with a long bench was designed for relaxation activities and connecting the interior and exterior. Upstairs, a hallway is designed to be a corner of a Buddhist altar, giving a sense of calmness and spirituality to the start and end of the day. The hallway leads to the master bedroom, which overlooks the garden. A walk-in closet and bathroom are part of the room but were designed to preserve privacy with easy access. The laundry room features a south-facing balcony for sunlight.
