Baan Lookpla House is a seaside retreat in Hua Hin, Thailand. It is set between ocean views to the east and Khao Krailart Mountain to the west, framing both sunrise and sunset. Originally built over 50 years ago, the home was renovated to improve its structure, functionality, and comfort while preserving its original charm. The 1,600 sq.m. property originally included four buildings. One was removed to open up sea views and create a garden that connects the parking area to the main house. The remaining structures were updated for modern living while referencing traditional Thai architecture. The main house retains its original form, enhanced with improved materials: a semi-open ground floor for natural ventilation, a gabled roof with louvered vents for heat dissipation, and a hybrid reinforced concrete and timber structure. The old wooden roof was replaced with a lighter steel frame, while new fiber-cement roof tiles offer a clean, contemporary look. Inside, the layout was opened by removing interior walls, creating panoramic views from the living area. Folding doors on three sides connect the space seamlessly with the outdoors. A palette of natural wood, terracotta tiles, and large-format porcelain flooring strikes a balance between traditional and modern. Original wooden joists were preserved and painted white to blend into the updated interior. The landscape design focused on preserving existing trees, including a decades-old Plumeria. A beachfront pavilion was renovated to reflect the updated design of the main house, while a new infinity pool and garden were added to enhance outdoor living.
